The goal of a visit to a dental hygienist is to effectively supplement home dental care.
Some patients clean their oral cavity regularly and very carefully, but the technique may not always be correct. In case of incorrect or insufficient tooth brushing, plaque deposits occur. Over time, this leads to the formation of tartar, which irritates its surroundings and causes gingivitis, or even periodontitis (an inflammatory disease of the supporting apparatus of the tooth that leads to tooth loss).
The long-term presence of plaque and bacteria also causes tooth decay. These phenomena can be prevented by regular visits to the dentist and dental hygienist.
